Civil Chaplain| Malabar

  • Permanent full-time role based at The Forensic Hospital in Malabar with a target start date of August 2025
  • Ministry into a high secure mental health facility that caters for men, women and adolescent patients
  • Work for a top NFP provider with a strong 80-year history of providing care

As a Civil Chaplain, you will provide spiritual care and support to patients of The Forensic hospital. You will work with people of diverse backgrounds and beliefs, offering guidance, counselling, and emotional support.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Theological tertiary qualifications (in line with Civil Chaplaincies Advisory Committee (CCAC) endorsement)
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) 400 hours course or equivalent; or be prepared to undertake a CPE course or equivalent in the first year of accreditation (in line with CCAC endorsement)
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of Christian spiritual maturity with a pastoral heart.
  • Active involvement in and recommendation from a local Christian Church.
  • Chaplaincy or pastoral care experience
  • Current ‘Working with Children Check’
  • Willingness to undergo a police check
  • Willingness to be vaccinated to NSW Health employee standards
  • Willingness to be trained in Violence Prevention and Management (practical / physical training) to NSW Health employee standards

  • Ability to recognise the spiritual and pastoral needs of patients and to design, deliver and evaluate person centred spiritual care initiatives in accordance with professional codes and standards of conduct
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with patients and to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to facilitate safe and welcoming spaces which provide a sense of community and belonging
  • Treat all patients with equity, respect, and dignity
  • Provide spiritual and pastoral care in ways that respect and value diversity, e.g. age, race, faith, culture, disability, gender, spirituality, and sexuality
  • Ability to work within BaptistCare’s Purpose and Values and willingness to promote its Christian identity
  • Ability to work within BaptistCare’s Policies and Procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A demonstrated commitment to self-nurture and self-care
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintain professional boundaries, and professional spiritual development

Desirable Experience:

  • Understanding of the spiritual and pastoral needs of, and supporting those struggling with their health, incarceration, grief and loss, anger, frustration, bewilderment, or guilt
  • Working alongside other professionals in the Justice Health & Forensic Mental Health Network, to ensure that the needs of the whole person is met and help patients apply spiritual resources that encourage healing and behaviour modification.
