BaptistCare HopeStreet Centre located in Wallsend are currently seeking a part-time (45.6 hours per fortnight) Cook to on the team.  Your role will be to meet the nutritional requirements for clients who attend the drop-in service. You will need to coordinate the operation of the kitchen to ensure provision of high-quality catering services to clients according to legislation, food safety standards and BaptistCare policy and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, cook and serve food for large numbers of people including the homeless and disadvantage
  • Develop and grow a community café serving burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips and more
  • Prepare monthly orders for food, beverages and supplies in appropriate and cost-effective manner
  • Ensure the safe and hygienic storage of foodstuffs and supplies
  • Ensure volunteers are orientated to correct procedures in kitchen and servery
  • Have knowledge of food properties to reduce the possibilities of adverse food reactions
  • Ensure ongoing monitoring of relevant food legislation and standards of the site

About you:

  • You have a Hospitality/Catering Certificate or equivalent
  • Experience with economic food ordering, menu planning and stocktaking
  • Strong leadership experience and ability to coordinate kitchen staff
  • You have previous large-scale commercial cooking experience
  • A mature-minded person who is passionate about serving the disadvantage
  • WWCC for paid employment purposes
