Are you a seasoned legal professional ready to shape the future of a values-driven organisation? BaptistCare is seeking a dynamic Senior Legal Counsel to join our new national Legal, Risk & Governance team.
About the Opportunity
As Senior Legal Counsel at BaptistCare, you’ll be at the heart of strategic decision-making, working closely with the General Counsel to ensure our business objectives are always aligned with sound legal guidance. You’ll take the lead in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing a diverse range of legal documents and contracts, ensuring every detail is watertight and every risk is managed. Your expertise will be called upon to provide clear, strategic advice to senior management and operational teams, helping them navigate complex legal challenges with confidence.
You’ll play a pivotal role in mentoring junior legal staff, fostering their professional growth and ensuring the team consistently delivers high-quality work. Managing relationships with external lawyers will also be part of your remit, where you’ll oversee their performance and costs on complex matters, always upholding BaptistCare’s legal protocols.
Beyond legal support, you’ll be a key contributor to our governance framework. You’ll support the Company Secretary in all aspects of board governance, from preparing agendas and compiling board papers to attending meetings and ensuring accurate minute-taking and follow-up. Your proactive engagement in organisational meetings will see you offering legal insights that inform decision-making and drive strategic outcomes.
About you
To be considered, you will have:
• A Law Degree and current Practising Certificate.
• Over 12 years post-qualification experience in corporate/commercial law, human services, aged care, retirement living, planning, construction, or property.
• Advanced communication, negotiation, attention to detail, and time management skills. With proven ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision.
• Commitment to BaptistCare’s Christian identity and mission, high integrity, personal discipline, and confidentiality.
• Additional tertiary qualifications in business or human services, and experience with board procedures - Desirable.
